Soothe Your Stress With 4 Essential Oils
Encountering stress in inevitable. Multiple forms of stress are weaved throughout our daily routine. Work, school, and cooking dinner are examples. But, stress is not always negative and related to deadlines and schedules. Stress can even come from managing your time to squeeze in something fun.
Determining Stress Types
All stress is not all bad. There are times when a little stress motivates us to perform at our optimum levels. Other times, stress can make us feel so overwhelmed that we shut down, unable to do anything.
In those moments of overwhelm, your first task is to determine what kind of stress it is, good or bad. Ask yourself these questions, “Do I feel motivated or Do I feel overwhelmed?” Your response to stress is important. It is not healthy to live in a constant state stress. The increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure, hormone levels can train your body in some unsustainable habits like storing fat.
When the stress becomes too much, we must have techniques to calm ourselves down. Coupling your awareness with balance resulting from calm can support a more enjoyable life. In this blog, I want to share some stress relieving methods using essential oils.
The use of Essentials oils dates back thousands of years. Many countries like China, India, and Egypt have long experienced the benefits of using essential oils. Different mechanisms of use exist. Each has a unique purpose maximizing the essential oil’s benefits.
I mostly experience these oils through aromatherapy or topical use. Lavender is a favorite of many. It is well known for its calming effects. It is also suggested as a benefit to motion sickness sufferers. Chamomile is another well-known oil. It settles worry and anxiety. Many know about rose oil, though it is not as famous as others. It shares the benefits of chamomile and lavender while also providing some rejuvenation benefits. See the table below learn about a few of the oils that I have used and how they help with stress.
|Lavender||Mediterranean shrub||Helps with Migraine headaches and has calming effects.|
|Rose||Prickly shrubs||Reduces anxiety, helps relieve headaches|
|Chamomile||Low European perennial||Reduces irritability, anxiety, and worry.|
|Ylang Ylang||Cananga odorata tree||Calms fearfulness|
Use and Moderation
Essential oils should always be used with care. If you are pregnant or have medical conditions, consult your doctor before use. When using essential oils topically, you always want to mix them with a carrier oil like coconut oil or almond oil for example. This is an especially important step to remember if you have skin sensitivities. It’s best to do a patch test first on a small, hidden area of skin.
For aromatherapy, oil can be used with a diffuser or by putting a few drops in heated water. The aroma will fill the room with the oil scent. This is even nice when you are not stressed but want to create a productive work environment. When essential oils are inhaled, you can get fast relief because tiny nerves get right to work sending messages to the brain to relieve our stressed mind and bodies.
If you are in search of a natural way to relieve your stress, essential oils are the way to go. I only mentioned a few oils for stress, but there are more oils and benefits to choose from. I hope you have found something that piqued your interest.
